South Carolina ESTF tutoring for Columbia and Midlands families

Columbia sits at the center of the program in more ways than one — the ESTF is administered by the South Carolina Department of Education, headquartered here, and the Midlands is home to a large share of the families using it. Those families are spread across very different school situations: Richland County School District One serves Columbia itself, Richland School District Two covers Blythewood, Elgin, and northeast Columbia, and Lexington-Richland School District Five takes in Irmo and Chapin, with Lexington County's own districts across the river. Because ESTF eligibility turns on not attending your resident public school full-time, which district line you live behind shapes the decision — but once a student is in the program, the rules are identical statewide.

The Midlands also has two anchors that shape family logistics. Fort Jackson, the Army's largest initial-entry training installation, sits inside Columbia — and the ESTF speaks to military families directly: active-duty families stationed in South Carolina had a priority application window in the 2026-27 cycle, and an online tutor is one of the few supports that survives a permanent change of station intact. And Prisma Health Children's Hospital–Midlands makes Columbia the hub for much of central South Carolina's pediatric care, which means many families here already spend enough of the week driving to appointments. An online session at a consistent time adds specialist help without adding another trip.
