South Carolina ESTF tutoring for Charleston-area families

The Lowcountry's tri-county sprawl means Charleston-area families live under three different school systems: the Charleston County School District on the peninsula, the islands, and Mount Pleasant; the Berkeley County School District up through Goose Creek and Hanahan; and Dorchester School District Two in Summerville. ESTF eligibility turns on the student not attending their resident public school full-time, so which of those lines you live behind shapes the decision to enroll — but the program itself is administered statewide by the South Carolina Department of Education, and once a student is in, nothing about it is county-specific.

Charleston also has one of the state's largest military communities. Joint Base Charleston runs no schools of its own — its families are zoned into the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Two districts depending on where they live — and the ESTF speaks to them directly: active-duty families stationed in South Carolina had a priority application window in the 2026-27 cycle. For a household that moves on the military's schedule, an online tutor who stays constant through a PCS is a practical advantage, not a convenience. Add the region's traffic — anyone who has crossed the Ravenel Bridge or driven I-26 through North Charleston at rush hour knows why we did not open a local center — and the case for online delivery makes itself. The area is also home to MUSC's Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital, so many families here already spend real hours getting to appointments; tutoring should not add more.
